DIY-ish Speedlite Velcro Strap

Not quite DIY as you don't actually have to make anything. More like creatively use inexpensive products! I have make mention in previous posts to a speedlite velcro strap, to which I attach light modifiers. You could go the expensive route and buy a couple Honl "Speed Straps" for your flashguns at $10+ a piece. Or you can "make" one of these:

By "one of these" I don't mean the flash of course.

Extremely simple to do, yet so versatile.

Read more after the jump!

What you will need:

  • An elastic that fits snugly around your flashgun
  • Velcro Organization Strap (Sometimes called One-Wrap or Reusable Cable Ties)
Luckily, everything can be found at your local Walmart, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, etc.

First wrap your elastic around your flashgun

Lay the velcro strap around the elastic "rough" side down and through the loop at the end. The elastic provides the velcro with something to grip and prevents the strap from slipping.

Press the velcro strap against itself to fix it in place and you are done! Do all of your flashes for less than $5 and you are ready to use the DIY Floot, speedlite softboxes, the DIY Beauty Dish or even some gels:
